Parents: Blurry Boundaries Hurt Kids

Our guest on Wednesday, January 8th, was Kendra Wesson, Oklahoma State School Board member. Today, we talked about a whole LOT of things, but the one thing we talked about that is the most important to parents was this conversation about how allowing kids to have boundaries that blur the line between kid and adult can really cause the kid to get blindsided by things such as sexual molestation by a teacher or coach. Schools Know About Trans Teachers - Why Not Parents?

"Mary" at V1SUT Vantage talks to us about a woman who biologically transitioned to a man and is teaching at Western Heights Public Schools - where trans activist and drag queen Shawn Murnan (the Drag Queen Principal) and a Chinese immigrant who was caught soliciting 15-year-old boys - used to work. Administration must have known about this teacher, why were parents not told? Is it right for parents not to know this information? Shouldn't ALL tax payers be concerned about the people working with Oklahoma's children? Why is it so hard to find out this kind of information?

Mary also spoke with us about a teacher who had been born a female, but medically transitioned to a male. was a teacher at Western Heights Public Schools in Oklahoma. Because records are held independently - one record for the female name, one record for the male name - it was very hard to find a connecting paper trail to connect the female to the teacher in the classroom who presented as a male to the class, parents and administration. Don't parents have a right to know if their child's teacher is not presenting as their birth sex? What about another male using the bathroom with a woman presenting as a man? What about male students in the bathroom with this teacher presenting as a male, but who is biologically female? ANY public school should be transparent about who is working with the children attending that school, yet they are not.

In the end, Mary reached out to Ryan Walters and other Oklahoma public education officials - including the teacher herself - to ask how this situation of a trans teacher would be addressed under current law.

She received absolutely no comment back from anyone to whom she reached out. Whether people want to talk about this situation or not, parents have the right to know if a person teaching their child is not presenting as their biological sex. Why is this being dealt with silently? How can parents find out whether their child's teacher is not what they portray publicly?

All these questions need answers...

Edmond Public Schools Coerced Parents Into VaXinating Their Kids

Friday, December 6th, Oklahoma attorney Richard Labarthe was with Michael and Jenni to talk about the case he fought against Edmond Public Schools for discriminating between vaXinated and unvaXinated students. He also talked about his work with Oklahomans for Responsible Transportation and a bond hearing by the Oklahoma Council of Bond Oversight on December 5th where members approved millions more in bonds for OTA though, Richard argued, the process wasn't following Oklahoma law. Parents Hire Attorneys While OK Public Schools Fight Them With Taxpayer Dollars - ROPE Report Short

When taxpayer and citizen of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Brice Chaffin, attended a Stillwater Public Schools School Board meeting to express his concern over an SPS 'policy' of allowing boys into girl's restrooms during a public comment portion of the meeting where he had 3 minutes to speak, he was removed from the meeting after reading scripture.

Maria Seidler, an attorney with her own group, Legal Overwatch for Parent's School Rights, filed a lawsuit against SPS Board Members based on the Oklahoma Religious Freedom Act, with ROPE on behalf of Brice. The lawsuit was lost at all levels - including the OK Supreme Court. All the lawsuit asked for was for SPS Board Members to make a public apology to Brice for reacting to his comments by directing a police officer to remove him from the podium after he had used scripture in his comments.

Instead of an apology, SPS used 45 THOUSAND taxpayer dollars to fight the lawsuit in court and in appeals. Additionally, SPS's attorneys filed a countersuit against ROPE and Chaffin for attorney's fees. Though the Oklahoma Religious Freedom Act did not prevail in favor of Chaffin's religious commentary, it did prevail in preventing the court from directing ROPE and Chaffin from awarding SPS's attorneys with 45 THOUSAND dollars.

How is it that parents have to hire an attorney with money out of their own budgets to force public schools to treat parents with respect for their religious views or their rights, yet public schools will use taxpayer dollars to fight the religious views and rights of parents with money that was taken from them to fund the school?

When a public entity holds all the cards, it can only be called, TYRANNY.

Parents Can't Fight Issues Schools Say Aren't Happening - ROPE Report Short; Maria Seidler and Brice Chaffin

When citizens of Stillwater, Oklahoma, concerned that boys were being allowed in girl's bathrooms went to the school district to discuss the issue, the school lied and said there was nothing like that happening in the district. Only after administrators of Stillwater Public Schools were confronted with a witness, did they acknowledge the practice. They then said it was a policy, but when citizens asked for the policy, SPS officials couldn't produce the policy. At that point, they told citizens that SPS didn't have a policy, President Obama had put the policy in place.

How can concerned citizens/taxpayers/parents deal with an issue in their schools if the school will just lie and say it's not happening and/or say it's a policy when it's not - or even make up a policy to put in place after the policy has been questioned. Why should we allow schools to teach our impressionable children when they don't have a set of morals or ethics that directs them not to lie?

Privacy Policies can Protect Perpetrators; V1SUT - ROPE Report Short

V1SUT tells us that as she has researched MANY of her articles, she's finding more and more often that privacy policies adopted by all sorts of state agencies - from schools to police departments - are shrouding the transparency of a number of instances in which adults are hurting/abusing children/students in some way. 

During the research on her article about a 9 yo boy served a VPO at school without his parents present, V1SUT documents how it might be time to have cameras in classrooms to keep students safe.

ROPE Report Short - Oklahoma's Elected Officials Rarely Challenged, Not Responsive To Citizens

Ken Malloy of NorthStar Project (https://oknorthstar.org/) talked to us about how NorthStar is influencing Tulsa Public Education. 

From recruiting and helping school board candidates to run on a campaign of reforming TPS to writing White Papers (https://oknorthstar.org/whitepapers/the-responsible-educational-progress-rep-index-for-oklahoma-public-schools/) detailing TPS educational accountability, this new Think Tank formed last year is off to a running start. Ken and his wife Maria Seidler (of Legal Overwatch For Parents Rights - https://legaloverwatch.org/), both retired attorneys, moved to Oklahoma to be with their family. 

Ken talks about how different the culture in New York - where litigation against governmental entities is more commonplace - is compared to here in Oklahoma where few of our governmental officials are ever called on the carpet and therefore, are not at all responsive to the citizens they represent and who pay their salaries. 

Oklahomans need to wake up and figure out that our government does not have our best interests at heart. In fact, Ken likens Oklahoma's citizens to mushrooms that are kept in the dark and fed 'crap', by their governmental officials.

Is It True That EPS Doesn't Have "Porn" In Their Libraries/Curriculum?

Apparently, it depends upon what you consider pornographic. If it's unobscured sex as in a pornographic film - NO, EPS DOESN'T have 'porn' in their libraries. 

If it's written material that graphically describes a boy being raped by another older boy - YES, EPS DOES have 'porn' in their libraries. 

Would you want your Sophomore being read the word "c#nt" in class? What about a minor Sophomore student reading the following passage? 

“I felt Stanley’s hand creeping onto my thigh. I looked at him, but he was staring at the Hee Haw Honeys so intently that I couldn’t be sure he was doing it on purpose, so I knocked his hand away without saying anything. A few minutes later, the hand came creeping back. I looked down and saw that Uncle Stanley’s pants were unzipped and he was playing with himself. I felt like hitting him, but I was afraid I’d get in trouble the way Lori had after punching Erma, so I hurried out to Mom. ‘Mom, Uncle Stanley is behaving inappropriately,’ I said. ‘Oh, you’re probably imagining it,’ she said. ‘He groped me! And he’s wanking off!’ Mom cocked her head and looked concerned. ‘Poor Stanley,’ she said. ‘He’s so lonely.’”

Or this? “Assef knelt behind Hassan, put his hands on Hassan’s hips and lifted his bare buttocks. He kept one hand on Hassan’s back and undid his own belt buckle with his free hand. He unzipped his jeans. Dropped his underwear. He positioned himself behind Hassan. Hassan didn’t struggle. Didn’t even whimper.” 

What if the teacher read this passage in class? “He handed his cigarette to the guy next to him, made a circle with the thumb and index finger of one hand. Poked the middle finger of his other hand through the circle. Poked it in and out. In and out. ‘I knew your mother, did you know that? I knew her real good. I took her from behind by the creek over there.’ The soldiers laughed. One of them made a squealing sound. I told Hassan to keep walking, keep walking. ‘What a tight little sugary cunt she had!’ the soldier was saying, shaking hands with the others, grinning.”

A 2017 Letter To Edmond Public Schools From A Parent About The Glass Castle and Kite Runner

In 2017, a parent discovered that her 10th grade daughter was being required to read The Kite Runner for her English class - and that her daughter's teacher had read parts of the book aloud in class, teaching her daughter a word she didn't have in her vernacular previously, and one of which the mother didn't approve. 

She is not the first parent who has complained about two of the books that have been required reading for 10th grade English class for numerous years. In fact, many parents have followed the chain of command up through administrators to express their irritation and frustration over the fact that these books have been assigned to kids barely even 16 years of age, believing that they are not developmentally appropriate reading for high school aged students. 

Most parents believe that their child's school would never REQUIRE their kids to read something of which they wouldn't approve, but many - like this parent - are naive and don't check into the books their kids are reading.

Edmond Public Schools Superintendent Explains Her Priorities - And They're NOT Students

In a video posted to Facebook and on the district's website, Dr. Angela Grunwald, Superintendent of EPS, explains how it is that she will protect her district using taxpayer-paid attorneys to petition the Supreme Court to stop EPS from having their accreditation downgraded because they are refusing to remove two books from the curriculum. 

The books are the Kite Runner and The Glass Castle - books that are required reading in the 10th grade English curriculum - that parents have been complaining about since 2014 (that we know about). 

Why would a Superintendent use tax dollars to prevent the removal of two books from the curriculum after years of complaints from parents? Because, as she explains in this video, Superintendent Grunwald prioritizes "moving EPS forward" and "the district" above the well-being of students - and certainly their parents.

I have to say, I'm more than mildly happy to read that parents have finally discovered the disgusting books being foisted upon their children in public schools and metropolitan libraries all across the nation - including Oklahoma - yes, "of all places" - but I have to say, I'm more than mildly frustrated that we've been trying to alert parents to this phenomena for over 10 years and not gotten much traction.  

Masking For Money: How Oklahoma Public Schools Want To Subvert State And Local Authority For Federal Funds

Friday, August 27 (2021), I was sent a screen shot of a document from the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) that included masking 'guidance' which contradicted Oklahoma's SB658 (the bill to allow freedom of choice regarding student masking in all Oklahoma schools but private k-12) and was told that the OSDH had issued new/current (8/21) masking/quarantine guidelines to schools.

PARENTS! Use These Laws And Sample Letters To Exert Your Parental Rights In Public Schools

Today, there are numerous state school laws being violated by public schools. For example, for years schools have been using Common Core in classrooms though it was repealed from law and supposedly removed from Oklahoma State teaching standards in 2014/2015. Now it's the teaching of racism through Critical Theory, made illegal by HB1775 during the 2021 legislative session - as well as schools forcing students to wear masks though prohibited by SB658, also passed on behalf of parents this year.

Can A School Force Your Child To Take State Tests?

Today I received a communication from a ROPE reader. She told me she had received a letter from her Assistant Principal in response to her request to opt her child/children out of state testing. The letter said, in part:

As guided by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), indicating laws and rules set by our legislature, we are required to assess all enrolled students who are present on scheduled test days. In fact, "Because of these statutory and rule requirements, there is no "opt-out" option offered through the OSDE. In addition, 70 OS Section 5-117 states that local school boards of education do not have the authority to take actions inconsistent with state law or rules that have been adopted by the State Board of Education."

That sounds very official. Even a bit scary. 

Despite Ferocious Opposition, Oklahomans Choose Choice

This election cycle, candidates for state office who supported school choice issues were targeted for opposition by a group of Oklahoma teachers and educators collectively referred to as the “Teacher Caucus” who often engaged in ugly rhetoric and questionable campaign methods. November 8^th, Oklahomans not only resoundingly repudiated a majority of Teacher Caucus-backed candidates, but a state question which would have raised state taxes to provide state teachers a pay raise.
